| Influenza A (H1N1) or Swine Flu in Puerto Rico | Dear friends and colleagues, Given the increased concerns about the spread of influenza A(H1N1) (aka swine flu) around the world, we though pertinent to provide you with the following information: - The number of cases in Puerto Rico has increased in the last days. Unfortunately, there has been several fatalities. (updated: August 1, 2009 ). - El Verde Field Station is located near modern health facilities and, as with any health issue, we will help visitors with the logistics of visiting them if needed. - Travelling might be of concern to some as airplanes and airports are crowded areas. According to the World's Health Organization, travelers should follow simple practices, such as avoiding contact with people who appear sick and washing their hands. We will maintain the El Verde web page updated with information relevant to Puerto Rico. Although in Spanish only, you can also visit the web site of the Puerto Rican Department of Health (www.salud.gov.pr/InfluenzaPorcina). Sincerely, Alonso Ramirez
